…….Helping Students Achieve Their Dreams……
August-September, 2012
Dear Parents:
By now you have
received the most important word about how this school year has begun – the informal reports given to you by your son or daughter. The faculty and staff at Silas Willard hope those reports are
positive. We hope you feel that the school year has begun well for your child.
It seems to us at Silas that classes began smoothly and that these first few weeks have been a
fine beginning of what should be a productive school year. The boys and girls have been most cooperative in this heat.
During the first weeks of school, staff members familiarize all students with the routines and procedures
to enable them to be successful in the school setting. To help familiarize students with our three main PAWS rules – Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be There and Be Ready, we kicked off the year
with a special assembly and school wide Balloon Toss on August 29th.
Our PAWS program provides many opportunities for students to earn reward bucks and recognition
for their positive behaviors. Examples of rewards include pencils, erasers, extra recess, homework
passes, stickers, candy, movie passes, certificates to McDonald’s etc. Students will be able to save their
PAWS bucks and trade them in each month for one big prize or several small
prizes. We also provide opportunities for students to celebrate their good behavior with celebrations
for those without office referrals.
We are fortunate to have such an active and committed P.T.O. We look forward to seeing you at the first meeting September 13th at 6:30 in the library. Proceeds from the PTO activities will help pay for special events, field trips, equipment and project.
If you have any concerns about any aspect of your son’s or daughter’s schooling, feel free to
contact the teacher concerned or me. We welcome your inquiries.
Sincerely,
Angela
